"Peace Counts" in Herat
The half-day Workshop and exhibition "Peace counts" was held on June 18th, 2017 in Herat University Peace Center for 25 participants from 5 faculties of this university (law and Political Science; Social Sciences; Islamic Law and Science; Journalism; Public Relations and Education ), which included discussions on conflict resolution and conflict transformation.
Having introduced the facilitators and organizers of the exhibition, the workshop began and the participants introduced themselves by lighting matches, which made the prevailing atmosphere friendlier and prepared the ground for the workshop to commence. Then the audience visited posters and chose their favorite pictures of peace. Subsequently, they played the role of one of the stories of posters. The workshop continued while describing the Afghan poster due to its’ relevance with the participants, and in the end, the participants examined different stages of conflict escalation, and the role of a mediator through their personal experiences.
Herat University Peace Center or Pohonton Peace Center began its activities in 2016. The goal of this center is to institutionalize the concept of peace, education and conflict resolution in higher education in Afghanistan. With the launch of peace and conflict training courses for the faculty and students at Herat University, the center pledged to educate young leaders committed to peace and resolution of conflicts.
Facilitators of the workshop were Afghan volunteers of the Tehran Peace Museum, Ms. Malalai Habibi and Mr. Abdulmaytin Rahem, who had previously attended several workshops as well as training programs at Tehran Peace Museum.
